In this day of self-service and me marketing, it is refreshing to meet a young man who has only one motive in mind… Giving God All the Glory! JT Logan is that dude. It is no wonder why God has chosen to trust him with so much at an early age. JT encompasses a nice blend of transparency, humility, integrity and accountability. Mix those ingredients together and out comes an anointed brother bursting on the scene in a profound way.

At the tender age of 21, Mr. Logan comes to us out of Richmond, VA. He is not only a musician, singer and producer but a licensed minister, graphics designer, web developer and entrepreneur of the 1st order. Currently matriculating at Virginia Commonwealth University, JT is a shining example of how God can use those who are devoted to Him. While JT is an admitted church boy, he didn’t just grow up in church but he grew up in God. His love for God and for reaching people is undeniable. When he shares the truthfulness of God’s word, his message to all is to love God no matter the age. He is driven and passionate about ministry and life so much so that some may label him a workaholic. Ultimately, it’s kingdom building that drives his passion.

We decided to press JT on a myriad of topics. Here are some quotes from some of the ones that stood out to us.

How does the church re-capture the heart of our young men?

“Acts 17:28 says, for in Him, we live and move and have our being. We have to encourage brothers that they belong to God… not the streets or the world. We belong to God. We, as young men, also have an example to set for each other and for the ladies because the Bible says we are the head. We set the example by following God’s example. Because of what that scripture says, we can do well in school, on our jobs and in every aspect of life if we do it in Him.”

What’s in your ministry as an artist that can help bring more men into the Body of Christ…

“I look up to some of the male artists because I feel some kind of connection or I feel that I can relate to them. As an artist and minister, I feel if I’m showing my authenticity and allow brothers to see I have integrity, they will be able to relate to me. For example, recently I was at this festival that featured gospel and secular artists on the same stage. When Rick Ross came on, all the brothers were really into it and singing all of his lyrics because they could relate to what he was saying. I feel gospel should do the same thing by showing more of their integrity. By saying… I’m a man. I’m in this struggle too. I still have this temptation but I know God is my source and my strength. Be real. You can’t be phony. So that’s my prayer that I live so that other people can be touched.”

What was the process for writing the songs for your current project, In You?

“God gave me these songs a while back. Some [were written] while in grade school. They all express the notion, God I have everything I need in you. Each song is sort of a display of that truth. There are so many different songs along that same theme. We can find hope in him. We can find life in him. He’s the best source of hope, love and life. The songs come from my heart. I produced the project with Greg Mitchell. He took me under his wings and mentored me. That’s another thing for brothers. If you see another brother trying to do what you do, take them under your wings and mentor them. I encourage all brothers to do this.”

Why is the single, Glory to God, so special to you?

“The song Glory for God is so special because I wrote it in my dorm room. I was walking around thinking about how incredible God is. You do all these things… created the oceans, land, seas and the stars and still have time to make me and care for me. You hear my prayer and my cry. You deserve all the glory because there’s no one like you. So God forgive me for not giving you all the glory I should have. You deserve not just a little bit but all of it. The song comes from my heart. Right now I’m going to give God what I have stored up. He deserves it even through the good and bad. It’s also a song I wrote for everybody. It’s simple and repetitive so every person and culture can catch it.”

How do you keep your integrity and Godly character in the midst of all the pulls from the world, the women and all the temptations that come from college life?

“Never put God on the backburner. Always keep God first. Even when the girl is looking good or the money seems right, never compromise your integrity. I’ve been there. Even when it’s difficult, it doesn’t matter. God can take it all away. Show him you can be accountable and have integrity. It’s something I’m still learning. Sometimes I get caught up and he convicts me. Sometimes you may not need to be in a relationship or do this or go this place. Ministry requires sacrifice. The reward is going to be greater. Your faith has to believe that God is going to reward you and give you everything you need. When no one is looking, do what God would have you do. God is always watching you. Is my life pleasing to him? Am I doing what He would want me to do? You think girls are after you now. Wait until you’re living totally for God. God is going to send you the one for you! Hustle the right way… Go to school… Give God your best. Don’t change for no one but God and as a young man, God will take you far.”

What’s in the future for JT Logan?

“God wants me to be a pastor. I have a passion for people. I love encouraging and being encouraged. I can lead people closer to God. He is shaping me to get there so I can handle that responsibility. When I was in middle school, I accepted my call at age 12. That’s when I knew but I just got my licensed this year so I’m doing it in his time.”

Is there anything you would like to leave with our readers?

“Transparency! I think that’s been the word for this interview. A lot of times, men act like everything is perfect… like they don’t struggle with things us normal brothers struggle with. There is so much we go through as men. It takes boldness and humility to admit that I don’t have it all together… that I need God and you as my brother to hold me accountable. So remember to keep transparency, humility, integrity and accountability. That’s what it’s going to take for brothers to make it.”
